Rocco Schifano — Bespoke lighting and décor

Rocco Schifano / Rocco Schifano — Bespoke lighting and décor

I am a painter, sculptor and designer, working in Valle d’Itria, in Puglia. For twenty-five years I have sculpted the local stone by hand.

Today I make bespoke lighting fixtures and decorative pieces for historic masserie, relais and private houses: wall sconces, tables, bas-reliefs, full-round figures and fireplaces.

What I make

Every piece is made by hand in my workshop in Valle d’Itria — in stone, ceramic, metal and recycled materials. Each one is unique and unrepeatable. Lighting is the part of my work I am developing now: a wall sconce designed for the historic living-stone walls of masserie and trulli, made from wild straw and a bio-based resin of vegetable origin.

Who I work for

I work with architecture and interior design studios, and directly with the owners of masserie, relais, agriturismi and private houses. I also work on projects already developed by the client — a drawing, a measurement, an idea — translating them into stone.

The stone

The stone I work is the local limestone: pietra leccese in its paglierina variety, the stone of Martina Franca and of Ostuni. It is the same stone the masserie and the trulli are built from, which is why my pieces sit inside those walls as if they had always been there.

Recent work

Twenty-five stone wall sconces and two monumental fireplaces for a masseria in Ostuni, and lighting and interior pieces for relais and private houses in Puglia. My clients are private and professional, in Italy and abroad.
